California Proposition 65

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has added the following chemicals to the list of chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer for the purpose of the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986:

Significant New Activity (SNAc) Regulation

Order 2015-87-04-01 published in the Canadian Gazette on March 30, 2015 has imposed significant new activity provisions for quinoline.The SNAc provisions apply to any activity involving, in any one calendar year, more than 100kg of the substance.

March Updates

NPRI (National Pollutant Release Inventory) 

Environment Canada implemented the following changes for the 2014 NPRI reporting year. It has proposed the following changes:

  • Eight substance and toxic categories have been moved from Part 1,Group A to Part 1, Group B. The mass threshold for these substances has been reduced from 10 tonnes, and, in some cases, the concentration threshold has been reduced from 1%. As for Quinoline (CAS 91-22-5), the 10 tonne mass threshold has been reduced to 50 kilograms for total polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, including quinoline, and 5 kilograms for reporting quinoline itself.
  • To add one substance to Part 1A.
  • To add two substances to Part 1B.
  • To remove five substances from Part 1A.

CAS 544708-22-7 was added to the SNAc regulation as per SNAc notice no. 17909, published March 14th, 2015 in the Canadian Gazette (Part 1 Vol. 149, No. 11).

Security Certificate Update: ERA Uses Improved Security Certificates

ERA Environmental is constantly working to give you the most powerful, cost-effective, and secure EH&S management tools in the world. We're proud to announce our web-based EMS platform now uses the most advanced SSL certificate and algorithm available. 

ERA Environmental has changed the SSL certificate for our online software from one with a SHA-1 hash algorithm to a new certificate signed with a SHA-256 hash algorithm. The new SHA-256 hash algorithm follows the online industry's newest set of best practices for data security.

Because the ERA platform runs on the Internet Explorer 9 (and above) browser, your online set up is already compatible with this security update and no action is required on your partYou will see an HTTPS certificate in the URL of the ERA online software, indicating you have a secure connection with our site. 

This technical change is part of our commitment to protecting your private data and delivering the best EMS software experience possible.

New Customization Options for Your ERA Dashboard and Interface

ERA Environmental is constantly working to give you the most powerful, cost-effective, and customizable EH&S management tools in the world. We're proud to unveil our new and improved interface with advanced customization options designed to deliver the best possible experience. 

Customizing your ERA-EMS dashboard has been made even simpler using new dashboard widgets and an improved quicklinks menu.

These new customization options have been rolled out in tandem with the introduction of the new, streamlined ERA-EMS interface. The ERA-EMS has been customized so that you only see modules and forms needed for your tasks - software tailored specifically to you.

Dashboard Widgets

The new Dashboard Widgets enable any ERA-EMS user to set up their dashboards to display the information they need. Using dashboard widgets allows you to quickly get a snapshot of your compliance progress, including training stats, recent reports, compliance notifications, and executive KPI reports. Your personalized dashboard will not affect any other manager or employee's dashboard settings: it's your dashboard.

To customize your dashboard with widgets, click the down arrow symbol in the top-right corner of the screen.

Click on the + to add a widget from your dashboard or the - symbol to remove it from your dashboard.

Once a widget has been added to your dashboard it can be positioned as desired. 

Quicklinks Menu

You can also quickly access ERA menus you use frequently by adding them to your customized quicklinks menu. These quicklinks can be accessed at any time, without the need to navigate through modules. 

To customize your quicklinks click on the three vertical dots image in the quicklinks menu, as shown in the image below:

You can then select which menus and modules to add to your customized quicklinks list by navigating through the menu trees and checking off all the desired menus and forms you need.

With these new improvements, navigating through your custom ERA-EMS is easier and faster than ever.

Sign Up For Tier II and New ERA-EMS Dashboard Training

Tier II training refresher courses from ERAWith the March 1 deadline for Tier II reporting approaching, ERA is offering free 1-hour refresher courses for Tier II reporting and submission. These courses will begin Friday, January 30 to Wednesday, February 11. Register today to secure your preferred time.

These courses will take place live, through an online meeting platform, and make sure you are prepared for Tier II reporting. You'll also get an introduction to the new and improved features of the ERA-EMS dashboard.

Our compliance expert will answer any questions or concerns you have about Tier II reporting and go through the process of generating your report as well as submitting it through either E-Plan or Tier II Submit online.

If you're not interested in getting a Tier II refresher course but want to learn more about the new dashboard, we're hosting a session just for you on February 10.

In these refresher courses you'll get:

  • A refresher on how to use your ERA-EMS to process your Tier II
  • Instructions on how to generate the RY 2014 forms in ERA

January Updates

Toxic Release Inventory Program

Based on a published EPA final ruling, ortho-Nitrotoluene (CAS 88-72-2) has been added to the TRI list of reportable chemicals under regulation SARA 313. The first reports affected by this update are due July 1, 2015.

National Toxicological Program

Four substances have been added in the 13th Report on Carcinogens:

  • Ortho-toluide (CAS 95-53-4) has been re-evaluated from being reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen to being a known human carcinogen.

The following three substances have been added to the list of chemicals reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen:

  • 1-bromopropane (CAS 106-94-5)
  • cumene (CAS 98-82-8)
  • pentachlorophenol (CAS 87-86-5) and by-products of its synthesis (CAS 131-52-2 Pentachlorophenol, sodium salt)

Sarah Sajedi Lauded as National Finalist for Women of Influence Award

Only three entrepreneurs were chosen as finalists for the award category, with over 4,000 nominees vying for a spot in one of the Women Entrepreneur Awards' 6 categories. Today Sarah Sajedi holds the distinct honor of being one of just 18 women entrepreurs celebrated as top national business leaders. 

The Telus Trailblazer Category recognizes entrepreneurial women that are setting the standards for their industries, in both the types of products and services they provide, and in the quality of customer service and added value they offer. Finalists are true trendsetters: they've recognized a new market, product, service, technological advancement or opportunity and led the way. They demonstrate outstanding leadership and their market and set standards for originality, quality and successful management. Finalists must be a mentor, a visionary, a leader, a successful businesswoman and a trailblazer in her field.

Sarah Sajedi was chosen as a finalist for breaking ground in the environmental software industry by achieving advanced capabilities beyond what competitors can offer and for the extraordinary customer satisfaction ERA enjoys thanks to her belief that clients come first. 

At the awards gala, hosted at the Royal York hotel in Toronto, Sarah was named runner up for the Telus Trailblazer award. Sarah represented the entire Eastern Canada region. This is Sarah's second time as a finalist for the RBC Women of Influence awards, with her being the Eastern Canadian winner and national finalist for the TPH Sustainability Award in 2012
